The Google TV Streamer Now Costs $149.99. Walmart’s $60 Onn 4K Pro Is the Better Buy

Google raised its TV Streamer to $149.99. Walmart’s Onn 4K Pro does nearly everything it does for $59.98. Here’s where the Streamer still wins.

Google’s TV Streamer launched in 2024 as a $99.99 Chromecast replacement. Since August 31 it has cost $149.99 at the Google Store and Best Buy, a 50% jump Google pinned on “rising component costs.” Meanwhile Walmart’s 2026 Onn 4K Pro, which Android Authority’s reviewer preferred to the Streamer back when Google’s box was still about $100, sells for $59.98.

That gap was already hard to justify at $40. At $90, the call is easy.

What Google changed, and why

Google didn’t announce the increase in advance. In a statement to 9to5Google, it said: “Due to rising component costs, we are adjusting the U.S. pricing” of the affected products. The Streamer had company: five Nest cameras and doorbells went up by $20 to $50. Some reports point to rising memory prices, though Google hasn’t named RAM specifically.

The hardware is unchanged: 4K with Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, Wi-Fi 5, and built-in Matter and Thread support for smart-home gear.

Streamer vs. Onn 4K Pro, side by side

Spec Google TV Streamer Onn 4K Pro (2026)
Price $149.99 $59.98
RAM 4GB 3GB
Storage 32GB 32GB
Wi-Fi Wi-Fi 5 Wi-Fi 6
Ethernet 1Gbps 100Mbps
USB-A port No Yes
Dolby Vision and Atmos Yes Yes

Android Authority’s reviewer used the Onn daily for a month and found it fast and reliable, with 23GB still free after installing 13 apps. It also brings a few things Google’s box doesn’t: a full-size USB-A port, a hands-free “Hey Google” microphone with a physical mute switch on the back, Wi-Fi 6, and a remote with backlit buttons, a customizable star button and a Live TV button. There’s even a Find My Remote button on the box.

Where the Streamer still wins

  • Faster chip, more RAM. Google’s box has the stronger processor and 4GB of RAM to the Onn’s 3GB.
  • Gigabit Ethernet. The Onn’s wired port tops out at 100Mbps. For most streaming apps its Wi-Fi 6 makes that moot, but it can matter if you play big local 4K files.
  • Smart-home hub. The Streamer is a Matter and Thread hub. If you’re building out Thread devices, that’s a real reason to pay more.
  • Updates. As Google’s own hardware, it’s likely to get software updates sooner.

Finding one

The Onn 4K Pro has been hard to find since its May debut, but 9to5Google reported a fairly wide Walmart restock in September, with stock online and in stores across several states. If it’s gone near you, Walmart’s $50 Onn 4K Plus and $40 Onn 4K stick are easier to get. And if you spot a Google TV Streamer from a third-party retailer still priced near the old $100, that changes the math; TechRepublic noted some listings hung around that price right after the hike.

Verdict

Unless you specifically need a Thread border router or gigabit Ethernet, buy the Onn 4K Pro. At $149.99, the Google TV Streamer is a premium-priced box with modest premium features, and the $90 you keep pays for a good chunk of a year of streaming.
