Privacy Policy

Android Captain (“we,” “us” or “our”) publishes Android news, reviews and guides at androidcaptain.com (the “Site”) for readers primarily in the United States. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have under U.S. federal and state privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (together, the “CCPA”).
The short version
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral (targeted) advertising. We have not done so in the past 12 months.
- We do not currently run ads or use affiliate links.
- We collect only what we need to run the Site, answer messages, publish comments and send the newsletter you ask for.
- You can ask us to access, correct or delete your information at any time.
Information we collect
In the past 12 months, we have collected the following categories of personal information, as defined by the CCPA:

We do not collect sensitive personal information, such as Social Security numbers, financial account details, precise geolocation or health data, and we do not create profiles to make inferences about you.
Where the information comes from
- Contact form. Your name, email address and message when you use our Contact Us page.
- Comments. Your name, email address, optional website, comment, IP address and browser user agent (used to fight spam). Your name, website and comment are public; your email address is never published. An anonymized hash of your email may be sent to Gravatar (Automattic) to display your profile picture.
- Newsletter. Your email address when you subscribe.
- Server logs. Our web host, Hostinger, automatically records technical data about each visit for security and performance.
- Site statistics. Jetpack Stats (Automattic) gives us aggregated traffic reports, such as page views and popular articles. It does not give us your name or contact details.
- Web fonts. Our headline font is delivered by Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address.
How we use information

- To publish and moderate comments and prevent spam and abuse
- To send the newsletter you signed up for
- To understand which topics our readers find useful
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use
Cookies, Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We use a minimal set of cookies and browser storage:
- Color mode: your light or dark mode choice is saved in your own browser’s local storage and never sent to us.
- Comment cookies: if you choose, your name, email and website are remembered for up to one year so you don’t have to retype them.
- Login cookies: used only by our authors and editors.
- Analytics (optional): Jetpack Stats runs only if you click Accept in our cookie banner. If you click Reject, or haven’t made a choice yet, it stays off. Your choice is saved in your browser for 12 months, and you can change it at any time using the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
- Third-party services described in this policy, and any embedded videos or social posts, may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.
Do Not Track. We do not track visitors across third-party websites over time, and we do not allow third parties to do so for advertising on our Site. Because there is no common industry standard for “Do Not Track” browser signals, the Site does not change its behavior in response to them.
Global Privacy Control (GPC). We treat a GPC signal from your browser as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We also treat it as a “Reject” choice in our cookie banner, so optional analytics stay off automatically.
How we disclose information
We disclose personal information only to service providers that help us run the Site, under contracts that limit their use of it to providing their services to us:
- Hostinger: web hosting and server logs
- Automattic: Jetpack Stats, Gravatar and newsletter delivery (Jetpack Newsletter)
- Google: web font delivery
We may also disclose information if required by law, subpoena or court order, or when we believe it is necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of the Site, our readers or others.
Advertising and affiliate links
We do not currently display advertising or earn commissions from affiliate links. Before we add either, for example Google AdSense or retailer affiliate programs, we will update this policy to explain what those partners collect, add any required opt-out tools, and clearly label affiliate links in the articles where they appear.
Email newsletter
We send the newsletter only to people who subscribe. In line with the federal CAN-SPAM Act, every email identifies Android Captain as the sender and includes a working unsubscribe link. We honor unsubscribe requests promptly, and always within 10 business days.
How long we keep information
- Comments are kept for as long as they stay published.
- Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to respond and follow up.
- Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe.
- Server logs are kept for a limited period set by our hosting provider.
Your California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to:
- Know what personal information we have collected about you, where it came from, why we collected it and who we disclosed it to
- Access a copy of the specific personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate personal information
- Delete personal information we collected from you, subject to legal exceptions
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We do not sell or share it.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect it.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights
You may submit a request yourself or through an authorized agent. We will confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 days, as the law requires. To protect your information, we will verify your identity by matching details you provide, such as the email address you used, with information we hold.
“Shine the Light.” Under California Civil Code Section 1798.83, California residents may ask whether we share personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. We do not.
Rights in other U.S. states
Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws, including Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Virginia, may have the right to confirm whether we process their personal data, access it, correct it, delete it, obtain a portable copy, and opt out of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data and certain profiling. We do not engage in targeted advertising, sales of personal data or profiling.
Appeals. If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision and explaining why. We will respond to appeals within the time your state’s law requires. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you may contact your state Attorney General.
How to make a request
To exercise any of the rights above, send us a message through our Contact Us page with the subject “Privacy Request,” and tell us your state of residence and what you would like us to do. We may ask for more information to verify your identity.
Children’s privacy
The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. In compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it. We do not sell the personal information of consumers under 16.
Security
The Site is served over encrypted HTTPS, and we use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Visitors outside the United States
The Site is operated for a U.S. audience. If you visit from another country, your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. Visitors in the European Union, United Kingdom and similar regions may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of their personal data, to data portability, and to complain to their local data protection authority. We rely on our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Site, and on consent where you provide it, such as for the newsletter.
Links to other websites
Our articles link to manufacturers, retailers and other publications. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
We review this policy at least once a year. When we make changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page, and we will highlight material changes on the Site.
