Samsung’s One UI 9 Hits the Galaxy S25 and Z Fold 7 in the US. Here’s What You Get

Samsung’s Android 17 update is rolling out to US Galaxy S25, S25 FE, Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 phones. Plan for a download of nearly 4GB.

Samsung’s Android 17 update is no longer a Galaxy S26 exclusive in the US. One UI 9 began reaching carrier models of last year’s flagships over the weekend, and by Monday, October 5, owners of the Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 FE, S25 Edge, Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 were reporting the download on Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile.

That is a quick turnaround by Samsung standards. The stable build only started rolling out in South Korea about a week earlier, and the Galaxy S26 series got its own US update at the end of September after an initial delay. Unlocked units should follow within days, according to 9to5Google.

Which phones are getting One UI 9 right now

Reports are coming in carrier by carrier, so whether the update shows up today depends on who sells you service. 9to5Google spotted the Fold 7 on T-Mobile and Verizon, the Flip 7 on AT&T and the S25 family on Verizon. Android Authority says the wave covers carrier-locked and unlocked models across all three major carriers. The sources don’t line up perfectly on who got it first, but the takeaway is the same: if you own one of these phones, you are days away, not months.

Phone US carriers reported so far Firmware ends in Download size
Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra Verizon (AT&T and T-Mobile per Android Authority) DZIF About 3.8GB (S25+), 3.9GB (Ultra)
Galaxy S25 FE Verizon CZIF Not reported
Galaxy S25 Edge Verizon Not reported Not reported
Galaxy Z Fold 7 T-Mobile, Verizon F966USQUCCZIH Not reported
Galaxy Z Flip 7 AT&T F766USQUCCZIH Not reported

To check by hand, open Settings > Software update > Download and install. Clear some room first. Android Authority measured the S25 Ultra package at about 3.9GB and the S25+ at roughly 3.8GB coming from One UI 8.5. GSMArena notes the file is smaller if you were already on the One UI 9 beta.

What’s actually new

Forbes counted 11 headline additions. These are the ones you will notice first:

  • My FanCam keeps one chosen person centered while you film a crowd, which is exactly what you want at a concert or a kid’s soccer game.
  • Now Nudge surfaces contextual actions, like pulling up reservation details while you’re texting about dinner.
  • Warranty & Care is a new Settings section for checking coverage and booking repairs.
  • Security Brief and privacy alerts flag apps that behave suspiciously, and scam detection now covers more of your calls.
  • A more customizable Quick Panel, better document scanning at awkward angles, clearer Voice Recorder summaries and a thread view in Interpreter round it out.

Foldable owners get a bit more. The Fold 7 picks up extra multitasking controls, and the Flip 7’s cover screen gets enhancements, per Android Authority.

The missing piece: Gemini Intelligence

What isn’t in the changelog matters too. Gemini Intelligence, the agent-style Gemini features that can automate tasks and browse the web for you, hasn’t been confirmed for any of these phones. Forbes points out that the Galaxy S25 meets the 12GB RAM requirement, but Samsung hasn’t said whether it qualifies. If that is the feature you were waiting on, don’t read this update as a yes.

Should you install it now?

For most people, yes. This is a stable release, not a beta, and Korean owners have been running it for a week. Back up first, plug in before you start, and leave yourself 20 minutes where you won’t need the phone.

The one exception: if your job depends on a work-managed app or an enterprise VPN that is picky about new Android versions, let other people find the bugs for a few days. Everyone else has a faster, smarter Quick Panel waiting in Settings.
