One UI 9 Just Reached the Galaxy S25, Fold 7 and Flip 7. U.S. Owners Are Next in Line
Samsung's stable Android 17 update jumped from the Galaxy S26 to last year's flagships today, starting in Korea. Here's what U.S. owners should expect.

Samsung’s Android 17 upgrade has officially moved past its newest phones. As of Monday, September 28, the stable build of One UI 9 is rolling out to the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra, along with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. The first wave is landing in South Korea, which is how Samsung almost always starts, and the U.S. is expected to follow once the Korean release proves stable.
It didn’t stop there. Sammy Fans reports that the Galaxy S25 FE, the Galaxy S25 Edge and even the Galaxy Z TriFold picked up the same stable update in Korea on the same day. The TriFold is an interesting inclusion, because it was never part of the One UI 9 beta program.
How we got here
This rollout has been anything but smooth. Samsung delayed One UI 9 more than once before the Galaxy S26 series finally started getting it. In the U.S., Samsung said the S26, S26 Plus and S26 Ultra began receiving the update on September 16, and Canada’s S26 rollout started September 21. What Samsung’s U.S. announcement didn’t include was any date for older phones.
The first real schedule came from Samsung Thailand, which listed September 28 for the Galaxy S25 series, Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, with the Galaxy S23 FE penciled in for October. Android Authority warned at the time that the Thai dates shouldn’t be treated as a confirmed worldwide schedule. Today’s Korean release at least shows Samsung hit that date somewhere.
The numbers: firmware, patch and download size
According to Android Authority, the Galaxy S25 series build is S93xNKSUCDZIF and the Z Fold 7 build is F966NKSUCCZIH. Both ship with the September 5, 2026 security patch. (Sammy Fans lists a slightly different S25 build string; we’re going with Android Authority’s, which includes the full firmware code.)
How big the download is depends almost entirely on whether you were in the beta. Beta testers are getting a small incremental patch, while everyone jumping straight from One UI 8.5 is downloading the full Android 17 package.
| Device (Korea) | Starting point | Reported download size |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S25 | One UI 9 beta | ~535MB |
| Galaxy S25 Ultra | One UI 8.5 (stable) | 3,851.56MB |
| Galaxy Z Fold 7 | One UI 9 beta | 534.56MB |
| Galaxy S25 FE | One UI 9 beta | ~326MB |
| Galaxy S25 Edge | Not specified | ~3.4GB |
If you’re not on Wi-Fi and you skipped the beta, plan for a download of nearly 4GB. That’s not a cellular-data update.
What’s actually in One UI 9
Samsung is leaning hard on Galaxy AI again. Sammy Fans’ rundown of the S25 release highlights Now Nudge and Now Brief, a new My FanCam feature, a Security Brief summary, new privacy alerts, a more customizable Quick Settings panel and accessibility upgrades. Underneath it all is Android 17, which means Galaxy S25 owners are now on the same platform generation as Google’s own Pixels.
For S25 owners, that’s the real story. Samsung’s biggest weakness for years has been the gap between a new Android release and its arrival on last year’s flagship. That gap is shrinking, even if this cycle’s delays made it feel longer than it was.
When will U.S. Galaxy S25 owners get it?
Samsung hasn’t published a U.S. date, and we’re not going to invent one. The pattern, though, is well established: Korea first, then a broader expansion that typically reaches major markets, including the U.S., within days to a couple of weeks. Sammy Fans says Samsung expects to release the update in more countries over the next few days. U.S. carrier models can lag unlocked units, as T-Mobile’s head start on the S26 update showed last week.
Today’s release should be viewed as the beginning of the stable rollout rather than a simultaneous global launch. — Sammy Fans
When it does arrive, you’ll find it under Settings > Software update > Download and install. Before you tap that button, back up anything important and make sure you have at least a few gigabytes free if you’re coming from One UI 8.5.
Our take: if your S25 or Fold 7 is your only phone, there’s no harm in waiting a few days after the U.S. push to see whether early adopters hit any bugs. Samsung took its time getting One UI 9 right. You can afford to take yours.
