One UI 9 Finally Hits the U.S., but Only If Your Galaxy S26 Is on T-Mobile
T-Mobile is first to push One UI 9 and Android 17 to the Galaxy S26 in the U.S. Verizon, AT&T and unlocked owners are still waiting.

Samsung’s Android 17 update has finally reached American Galaxy S26 owners. Some of them, anyway. Starting September 24, T-Mobile began pushing One UI 9 to its carrier-locked Galaxy S26 phones, eight days after Samsung kicked off the stable rollout and then went quiet on U.S. timing.
Bought your phone through Verizon, AT&T or unlocked from Samsung? Keep waiting.
What’s actually rolling out
The download is big: roughly 4GB, or 4,183MB by Droid Life’s count. On the S26 Ultra it arrives as build S948USQU4BZID and carries the September 5 Android security patch. Under the hood it’s the same One UI 9.0 on Android 17 that ships on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra.
There’s one wrinkle in the early reports. Android Central says only the T-Mobile S26 Ultra is getting the update so far. Droid Life and 9to5Google, which leaned on owner reports from Reddit, say the whole T-Mobile lineup is in: the S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra. Either way, if you have any T-Mobile S26, it’s worth checking right now under Settings > Software update > Download and install.
Why this took so long
Samsung announced the stable One UI 9 release on September 16 after about four months of beta testing, and put the Galaxy S26 series first in line. U.S. owners were expecting it around September 21. That date passed without an update, reports of an open-ended delay followed, and Samsung never said what went wrong. Even now, 9to5Google calls the cause of the hold-up unclear.
Android Central described T-Mobile as jumping ahead of the broader U.S. release, which is a polite way of saying Samsung’s own unlocked customers got lapped by a carrier. Droid Life reports rumors that the wider rollout could slip into early October. Nothing official backs that up.
| Date (2026) | What happened |
|---|---|
| Sept. 16 | Samsung starts the stable One UI 9 rollout, Galaxy S26 series first |
| Around Sept. 21 | Expected U.S. start date passes with no update |
| Sept. 22 | Delay for U.S. models is widely reported |
| Sept. 24 | T-Mobile begins pushing the 4GB update to Galaxy S26 phones |
| Early October (rumored) | Possible window for Verizon, AT&T and unlocked models |
What you get in One UI 9
Samsung’s pitch leans hard on Galaxy AI and privacy. The headline additions from its announcement:
- My FanCam, which automatically tracks a subject while you shoot video.
- Now Brief picks up generative, editable cards.
- Upgrades to Galaxy AI tools including Now Nudge, Creative Studio, Interpreter, Document Scan and Voice Recorder.
- New privacy features: Security Brief, Privacy Alerts and Scam Detection.
Scam Detection is the one to care about. Spam calls and phishing texts are a daily nuisance for most American phone owners, and protection baked into the OS will do more for the average person than another round of AI photo tricks.
Which Galaxy devices are next
Samsung’s confirmed list is long. After the S26 family, One UI 9 is headed to the Galaxy S25 series and S25 FE, the S24 and S24 FE, and the S23 and S23 FE. Foldable owners are covered back to the Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, including the Fold 6, Flip 6, Fold 7 and Flip 7. On tablets, the Tab S11 and S11 Ultra, Tab S10 Ultra and S10+, and the Tab S9, S9+ and S9 Ultra are all on the list.
Samsung hasn’t given U.S. dates for any of them. Given how the flagship rollout went, don’t hold your breath for a firm schedule.
The bottom line
One UI 9 is real, it’s stable, and it’s on American phones. That’s the good news. The bad news is that Samsung’s biggest U.S. customer base, people on Verizon, AT&T and unlocked devices, is still sitting on Android 16 with no official word on when that changes. A carrier update showing up first usually means others aren’t far behind. Usually.
