Google is auto-linking your phone number to every account on your Android phone. Here's how to stop it.
Google Play Services is verifying the phone number on your SIM and linking it to every Google account signed in on your Android phone.
The setting is opt-out. Some users got emails from Google saying their number was verified. Others found the toggle already on with no warning.
Settings > Google > All services > Phone number verification. Then switch off Verify phone numbers automatically.
The toggle won't remove existing links. Open Contact info > Phone in each secondary Google account and delete the number.
In an Android Authority poll of 2,059 readers, 86% said this lowers their trust in Google. Recheck the toggle in a week, since some say it turns back on.
