A new Pixel Recorder toggle puts your audio in a Recordings folder any file manager can open.
Recorder version 4.2.20260823 adds an Allow recordings in other apps setting, so your audio is no longer locked inside the app.
Your recordings appear as regular files in Files by Google or other file managers. The toggle is on by default.
It has been spotted on phones including the Pixel 9 and Pixel 6a. No toggle? Clear Recorder's cache and force-stop it.
If you record sensitive interviews or appointments, turn the toggle off to keep files away from other apps.
Some Pixel owners have reported vanished recordings since July. Now that they are files, back up anything irreplaceable.
