Google Assistant is gone from Android phones in the U.S. Here's what changed and what still runs it.
Google has finished replacing Assistant with Gemini on Android phones and tablets in the U.S. and Europe.
The Switch to Google Assistant option has vanished from the Gemini app. A power-button long-press now opens Gemini.
Wear OS watches, compatible earbuds and Android Auto also move to Gemini once your phone makes the switch.
Nest and Google Home speakers and displays, plus cars with Google built-in, keep Assistant for now.
The migration began Sept. 4 after Google missed its end-of-2025 target. Try your alarm, smart home and Android Auto commands in Gemini.
